Every Artist I've ever met has been burned at some point in their lives! Everyone thinks art is free for some reason. I really don't understand this. It's my career. I like to do commissions, but I need to do them on my terms.

Here are the terms...

Sometimes I do a painting and someone likes it and wants it, only to find out it has been sold. When someone buys one of my paintings, they are putting their trust in me that they are getting a "one of" original piece of art and that it was my best effort (hopefully we all continue to improve at what we do...)
I can do something similar, however, there will be a noticeable difference.

If you are interested in me doing a special, specific place, this can be done. When the size, place and price are agreed upon, the client then pays half up front. This pays for supplies and any other expenses that occur. It also covers my behind if I spend a lot of time and then the client changes their mind.

I will do a small scale painting that remains my property. This shows the client the direction that I am going with the project. Once we all agree, I then do the large painting. When the painting is completed and the cheque clears (sorry, there are too many scams these days for me to send work without compensation...) I send the painting. The client pays for any framing and shipping/duty/custom charges. If there are any special requests (for instance, you want me to come to a particular place) you will have to pay any and all fees.
