You may have noticed that absolutely nothing is happening with me artistically...
Ahhh yes to the naked eye, but nothing could be farther from the truth. Since my discovery of Richard Schmid and Jeremy Lipking a couple years ago I have been in a quandry. I've always felt myself a realist, but was sliding down a path of the typical Canadian Landscape Artist. Pigeon holed in the heavy influence of The Group of Seven.
There's nothing wrong with that-if you are being true to yourself. I don't think I was.
In november I went to Malibu to study with Jeremy Lipking. It basically changed my life artistically. I have also been studying Richard Schmid at great length.
The studio door has been closed and locked and I have been practicing hard! Getting it down the way I see it. The new motto is one of Richard Shmid's rules: Never knowingly leave any mistakes on your painting. For me this means starting and restarting something 50 or 60 times!
The perserverance I was talking about sure comes in handy at trying times like these. I am happy to say I am heading in the right direction. I will be travelling to Colorado in the fall to attend The Richard Schmid Fine Art Auction. I will get a chance to meet The Maestro and hopefully learn some valuable lessons. Look for great new things to come.
